one more comment: the DS2406 seems to be fully supported if look on the owfs.org website and part of the packages they make for different distributions. I could not find any source code there though.
Saw that, yeah; owfs is a different approach to the problem because it makes use of user-space 1wire interfacing code which is then exported as a filesystem using fuse. It seems to be able to talk to the one-wire abstraction we use in the Linux-kernel, so if you really want to use the DS2406 _now_, you could try to compile it for the Carambola; I think the sources are here
I myself would prefer using the kernel-drivers: it's a lot more lightweight than running a daemon and using fuse just to get access to a couple of sensors
